Disco Stew

disco-stew-01-back-435px-myspace-right

A little mix I put together. The pace is kinda fast but I wanted to make it feel like a condensed night out crossed with a megamix so I guess it came out alright in the end. Look out for a sequel in the very near future.

AUGUST PLAYLIST MIX (LET IT WHIP)

whip_it

Back again...just. Fate's been against us this month with a myriad of technical difficulties, time constraints and xbox 360 sessions being our reasons (excuses) for the late mix. Fear not however, we've returned with a bunch of dance music and a quality edit! Yay! Cheers to Dave at Media for putting us on to Church of Nonsense and thanks to all of you. You're too kind.

JULY PLAYLIST MIX (DUSTY ELECTRONICS)

DOWNLOAD JULY PLAYLIST MIX

After our battle with the IFPS over "A Milli", we're sorry if it took a while to get round to this month's mix, but we made it in the end, by 4 days. The legacy of the monthly mix series survives. Hazaa! Gone with less new stuff this time, partly because we're scared and also because we've been especially enjoying this sort of sound in early hour, pre-house, bougie settings. Good for BBQs too. Enjoy!

mixed by Alpha Neil

1. Fonzworth Bentley ft. Sa Ra & Andre 3000 - Everybody
2. G. Dep ft. Ghostface & Craig Mack - Special Delivery (Remix)
3. Graveleaf - The Crusade
4. Panorama - War In Love (Instrumental)
5. Def Jef - Droppin' Rhymes On Drums (DJ Mehdi Remix)
6. Vortex O.S.T. - Black Box Disco
7. Sharon Redd - Beat The Street
8. BBQ Band - Starlette (Chmmr & Juri Redo)
9. Twin Hype - For Those Who Like To Groove

JUNE PLAYLIST MIX MK II (IT'S BILLI TIME!)

billionaire

We received the following from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) within a couple of days of posting the June Playlist a few weeks ago:

"We have learned that your service is hosting the above files on its network. These files contain sound recordings by the artist known as Lil Wayne. These sound recordings are owned by one of our member companies and have not been authorized for this kind of use. We have a good faith belief that the above-described activity is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law. We assert that the information in this notification is accurate, based upon the data available to us.

We are asking for your immediate assistance in stopping this unauthorized activity. Specifically, we request that you remove the infringing files from your system or that you disable access to the infringing files. In addition, please inform the site operator of the illegality of his or her conduct."

We attempted a meek fight back by pointing out that we hadn't featured the whole track, that we'd dropped fx over it and that DJs often use unlicensed tracks but alas there was no reasoning with them. I guess Tha Carter III sales were suffering because of his two minutes on our playlist. On a serious note, we understand the legality of the whole thing but do people really think this is reasonable? I mean, since when was putting a new rap single on a mix tape a problem?!

Seeing as we here at The Goodness are good law abiding citizens and we don't want to end up in court, especially over a Lil' Wayne song, we buckled under the pressure and have decided on a compromise. So here it is, the whatsthegoodness.blogspot.com June Playlist Mix....MK II! It's bigger and better than before. Ta daaa!

mixed by Alpha Neil

1. Jay-Z - A Billi

JUNE PLAYLIST MIX (IT'S MILLI TIME!)

Milli_Vanilli_Al_All_or_Nothing

Don't let one of Germany's finest exports put you off, this mix is Vanilli free but more than makes up for it in Milli (ugh... tenuous. Then again, maybe not if you've seen this). Already halfway through June and the shortlist for this month was longer than usual with tons of good music around. Especially enjoying the summery vibe on Kill The Noise's "Pull My Strings" and despite clearing the dancefloor at Trainer Trouble, I've still got faith in Busy Signal's "Grades". The Splash Band's "The End" has been getting a surprisingly good response too. Enjoyee

mixed by Alpha Neil

1. Lil' Wayne - Milli
2. Busy Signal - Grades
3. The Whitest Boy Alive - Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)
4. Kill The Noise - Pull My Strings

MAY PLAYLIST MIX (BIT OF FEEL GOOD)

Another month, another mix. May's a super busy time for us this year with a few trips to the capital and a bunch of resident duties inbetween. We're starting a pre-club night on the 24th at the Carpenters Arms at 68-70 Whitfield Street, London, so that probably explains the slightly more laid back and "for the ladies" vibe of this mix. Then again, it is offset by the dumb craziness of Douster's "But I'd Rather" and the back-to-earth-with-a-crash realness of Jaylib's "The Message". Other highlights include Cassettes Won't Listen and remixes from Mr. Oizo and DJ Sega.

Oh and summer is officially here.

APRIL PLAYLIST MIX (SPRING FORWARD)

With clocks going forward and daylight returning to this cold corner of the British Isles,we're feeling reinvigorated here at The Goodness HQ. Some cool stuff is on the horizon at the moment including new remixes, re-edits and the imminent launch of our online shop so stay tuned.

aprilplaylist

This month's mix is definitely on a back to basics tip with a few famous samples, a few club tracks and a couple of late 90s rap joints thrown in. Took us a while to get on to all of these jams as some of us weren't 100% sold on the XXXChange or Bart B More remixes but now you can consider us converts. We know we were wrong. We're sorry.

Other highlights include Busta doing his best James Brown tribute, Simple Minds' awesome "Theme from Great Cities" and Jay-Z's backpack crushing "Money, Cash, Hoes". Crazy outro dedicated to Matt.

mixed by Alpha Neil

1. Enoch Light - Hijack
2. Busta Rhymes - Don't Touch Me
3. Ghostface Killah - Charlie Brown (DJ Mehdi Remix)
4. Birdman ft. Rick Ross & Young Jeezy - 100 Million (XXXChange Remix)
5. Wiley - Wearing My Rolex
6. Ron Carroll - Walking Down The Street (Bart B More Remix)
7. Simple Minds - Theme From Great Cities
8. Jay-Z ft. DMX - Money, Cash, Hoes
9. Dirt McGirt ft. Pharrell - Pop Shit
10. David McCallum - The Edge

MARCH PLAYLIST MIX (SOLILOQUY OF CHAOS)

We're back and notice that we're getting later with these monthly mixes as each month passes. We've got excuses though: between playing "dan saff", putting on our party (you could call it that) and playing that local club where rave is still king, we've been real busy. This mix kinda reflects the chaos. Loads of everything from punk bmore remixes to smoothed out beach funk mixed into an incoherent 8-ball of a mix. Drought's over - see you next month.
