Hudson Mohawke - Essential Mix

What a year for Hudson Mohawke: his album, "Butter" was released on Warp to largely positive reviews, unleashing his unique blend of breakbeats, synths and soul on a largely unsuspecting public; and he recently recorded his first Essential Mix for the BBC taking the listener on a journey through dubstep, leftfield hip hop, grime, soul, rap and house not to mention several of his own productions. Nite Jewel

Been meaning to post some Nite Jewel for a couple of months now. The Los Angeles resident is currently raising eyebrows around internet land with her latest 7" single, "Weak For Me" on 1984 Records, which apparently Stone's Throw is partly involved with (we've posted a snippet below). Her sound is a slow, dusty, lo-fi cross of Dream Pop, 80s R&B, Sade and James Pants, with blissfully gritty results.

Beautiful Music 4 Beautiful People

Dam-Funk recorded this all vinyl mix for LA style gurus Clae and it's a fun listen, travelling through the cosmic dimensions of electro-funk, 80s RnB and (what most people are calling) boogie. If you're a beautiful person and drum machines and power synths are your thing then this mix has been tailored especially for you, so try it on for size.

Hudson Mohawke - Butter Snips

More Hudson Mohawke excitement for you, this time a sampler from the upcoming album, Butter. Which is a perfect title with all the milky synths, creamy production and distinct lack of cheese. It's like a metaphor explosion in a dairy. Album out October 12th.

Ultragamma - CC Mixtape 001

The rather excellent Curb Crawlers just started a new mix series and to kick things off have enlisted the considerable talents of Ultragamma, a Canadian up and comer in the LA-centred lazy-step scene (we don't know what to call it, limp hop?, trip hop '010?). Either way, enjoy a head-snapping 40 minute plus symphony of downtempo bleeps, squeeks and screaming synths accompanied by drums heavier than a falling anvil. It's what Sundays were made for.

Hudson Mohawke - Rising 5

We were first made aware of Hudson Mohawke earlier this year after the awesome "Zoo0000oom" was featured on both the Flying Lotus Essential Mix and Gaslamp Killer Stones Throw Podcast. Going by what we've heard, the Glaswegian's forthcoming album on Warp (out October), should be well worth a listen if you like your instrumental hip hop live, synthy and with a touch of 8-bit.
