Minimal Wave - Stones Throw Podcast 53
The new Stones Throw podcast is out and to celebrate the release of the forthcoming Minimal Wave compliation in January they've put together a mix of early electronic and well, Minimal Wave tracks.
from Stones Throw:
"Stones Throw is dropping the anthology The Minimal Wave Tapes in January - a collection of underground DIY electronic music from North America and Europe in the late 1970s and 80s. The founder of the Minimal Wave record label Veronica Vasicka put together this 40-minute mix which includes a couple tracks by artists who are on the anthology, several who are not, and some tracks she's just really into right now.
These tracks were all created with analog synths and drum machines from the 70s until now, and most were originally released on limited edition cassettes or vinyl by the artists themselves."
Check out the rest of the Stones Throw podcasts here.

Lindstrom - Little Drummer Boy (Edit)
Few things beyond the Kanye/Spike video debacle have provoked as much bemusement recently as the announcement that Norwegian chill-trance producer, Lindstrom, would be releasing a 40-minute plus version of Christmas classic, "Little Drummer Boy". It dominated much of the pre-Ekstravaganza conversation this past weekend (where he headlined), but for whatever reason none of our contingent lasted long enough into his set to find out whether he played it or not.
So we were excited to say the least this morning to see The Fader had posted an edited version of the track, which we've re-posted for you below. Apparently the full length, epic version is available as a bonus track on the Lindstrom & Christabelle album which is out today, available at Rough Trade. You can buy it here.

Hudson Mohawke - Essential Mix
What a year for Hudson Mohawke: his album, "Butter" was released on Warp to largely positive reviews, unleashing his unique blend of breakbeats, synths and soul on a largely unsuspecting public; and he recently recorded his first Essential Mix for the BBC taking the listener on a journey through dubstep, leftfield hip hop, grime, soul, rap and house not to mention several of his own productions. Look for big things from the Glaswegian in '010 and beyond.

Nite Jewel
Been meaning to post some Nite Jewel for a couple of months now. The Los Angeles resident is currently raising eyebrows around internet land with her latest 7" single, "Weak For Me" on 1984 Records, which apparently Stone's Throw is partly involved with (we've posted a snippet below). Her sound is a slow, dusty, lo-fi cross of Dream Pop, 80s R&B, Sade and James Pants, with blissfully gritty results.

Olivia and Kate
Here's some more greatness from Ernest Greene, better known as Washed Out. Apparently the limited cassette release of High Times and the limited Life of Leisure 12" have both sold out but fret not, the full release of the 12" plus a 7" of "Feel It All Around" are available at a few quality independent retailers. Also, in case you didn't know, he has a blog. Ch-check.

Memory Tapes - Treeship
Apparently the "Seek Magic" vinyl has been slightly delayed, so to keep us satiated in the meantime, the We're Tapes blog has released "Treeship", a 20 minute selection of new instrumentals from Memory Tapes which originally featured on CD2 of the "Seek Magic" CD release. Needless to say, it's fairly stunning.

Flic En Flac
Been seeing this guy's name pop up left and right recently, but it took hearing "Flic En Flac" for us to jump directly on Nottingham-based, Geiom's bandwagon. With British bass and European synth-progginess on display in equal measures and a practically indecipherable swing, "Flic En Flac" will work as well in a club as it will in your living room on a Sunday morning and it's not often you can say that.

Witches and Outcasts
Disco Outcasts has been one of our favourite blogs for a while now, they're pretty solidly on point when it comes to the 80s Disco/Euro/early Electronica/retro side of things, but besides bossin' in blog land, they've been in the studio too and the results are rather exciting.
Below is just one of the tracks you can check out on their Soundcloud page. Dubby atmospherics and pounding arpeggiator at just the right tempo on this one, the seasonally titled "Witches".
Pulp Disco & The Outcasts - Witches (original mix) by discooutcasts
Oh and they also have a weekly night in Manchester at the Purple Pussy Cat, so if you're in England's North West, why not pay them a visit?
