Hero - Funeral March

Really digging this half speed disco/electro jammer from Toronto's Hero. Apparently it's an oddly titled tribute of sorts to Michael Jackson. Big piano, big drums and a bit of just-so distortion - a fitting memorial(?).

The Phenomenal Handclap Band - You'll Disappear (Prins Thomas Discomiks)

Another fine "Discomiks" from Prins Thomas' lastest batch, this time a remix of another indie/dance group, The Phenonemal Handclap Band. You may remember us posting Munk's remix of "You'll Disappear" last month, but this one's a little different, Prins Thomas eschewing the original's pop arrangement and taking it on one of his extended, rocky, prog-disco journeys.

Also, keep an eye out for the Full Pupp gang in the capital, as the Prins and co. have a new gig, Ekstravaganza at Corsica Studios. According to our sources the first night was a huge success and rumour has it that Lindstrom will be joining the Prins for his return visit in November. You can count us in.

Exploited Taster

Here's a teaser from the new compilation on Shir Khan's Exploited label, a couple of minutes from Siriusmo's "Testliebe". The compilation features the best of the label's back catalogue (one cd unmixed, the other mixed by Shir Khan) and if this snippet is anything to go by, will be well worth grapping a copy. You can buy yours here.

Morgan Geist: We Make It Good Mix Series Vol. 10

The Fader just posted the latest in their We Make It Good Mix Series and when we saw they'd enlisted Morgan Geist to do the honours, we had to pass it along. A fine selection of dusty, midtempo disco gems from one half of Metro Area, playing a more cosmic style than he's known for but doing it with aplomb.

A few words from Mr. Geist:

"This little mix is obviously inspired by the original Cosmic DJs (Baldelli) and innovative DJs of (or nearer to) my own generation, like DJ Harvey and Daniel Wang. I made sure to include some records that I thought I “discovered” on my own, only to hear them played by other (better) DJs who probably knew about them a lot longer than I did. Parallel evolution is a bitch, but I didn’t want to abandon these beloved tracks just because they were “marked” by another DJ. For example, most DJs who know the Transfer Station Blue track associate it with Sarcastic Disco, the infamous and beautiful Harvey mix – yet I believe I got my first copy of it from my departed friend, Barry Lederer, and associate it with digging and listening and learning in his dusty old apartment on 24th Street in Manhattan. I find Harvey inspirational, but don’t want my own Barry-nostalgia supplanted. I realize it sounds corny, but sometimes you have to reclaim music that is important to you, and that’s what a lot of this mix is about for me." – Morgan Geist (Environ, Unclassics, Metro Area)

Washed Out - Hold Out

Cosmic stuff from South Carolina's Washed Out as he takes a beachy funk break and transforms it into a sunkissed disco jam with lots of nice synths and distortion. The o.g. is below for all you sample types.

Beach and Beard + New Edit!

beachnbeardpromo

Kid Who and yours truly have launched a new blog over at beachandbeard.blogspot.com where we'll be posting recent-ish, spacey club sounds, lightly seasoned with some of our own edits. The Kid's already posted a couple of his latest works so thought I'd follow suit with my stupidly slowed down version of Mory Kanté's "Yé Ké Yé Ké", posted below.

Kid Who Wins Yalla Yalla Remix Competition

Long time Goodness chum and part-time contributor, Kid Who, has been making waves with his recent stream of chuggy disco edits and remixes. So much so that turns out he impressed somebody at fine art recordings with his entry for their recent remix competition, taking home the proverbial bacon with his cosmic mix of Sheharzad's "Yalla Yalla".
Check it out below:
